Depression 360 – Wired for the Experience

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

Mad Wisdom is a journey to explore, examine and experiment with the experience of depression.  The existing perspectives, interventions and ideation on this issue are making no impact in solving the rising tide of occurrence.  Our objective is to bring new eyes and fresh thought to the search for answers.  We intend to stretch beyond the limits of conventional wisdom and explore the depths of Mad Wisdom!  Perhaps you’ll discover the truth about this dark visitor for your own life.

What if:

·         Depression is a blessing and a curse and the choice for you to make is which master you’ll serve?

·         Seeing the seemingly futility and meaninglessness of this in-body-experience is giving you a vantage point that’s important for your life path - a part of a larger process that you are wired for?

·         The notions of defective brain chemistry and genetic disposition are mere distractions in the larger truth at play?

·         Your life path is different and unique rather than broken and flawed?

·         Depression is the beginning of the greatest adventure of your life – it’s a gateway to awakening to your truest self expression?

·         Having tasted the experience you can’t un-ring the bell - no amount of numbing or running will change what you’ve seen?

·         The real power is in examining all these ideas for yourself and completing the journey of descent and ascent from the depths of hell – going through rather than running from, turning back or changing your brain?

These are the ideas of Mad Wisdom.  Are you ready to examine and explore the experience anew?

Exercise & Depression

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

We all know exercise is just plain good for us, but more and more research is concluding that exercise can help reduce depression and be a good step in moving you out of bed and back into your life. Many times the last thing we want to do when depression has taken hold is exercise. (more…)

Suicide and our children

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Last week another child gone due to suicide. When will we stop being so busy with our lives, so busy working to obtain things, so busy driving our children away before another one will die. Parents that have lost a child to suicide will tell you that none of those things mean anything now that their child is gone, and while I haven’t lost a child to suicide I have lost a husband to suicide. Watching my son grow up without his father and knowing that the day would come when I would have to tell him what happened has been a journey I wouldn’t wish on anyone. In no way can I fathom what a parent feels when they get that dreaded news, but I hope that many of us will say enough is enough and start doing something to help our children. (more…)

Sheri’s Story

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

In looking back at my life I can now see that my depression was something that came in and out of my life since an early age, but I didn’t realize it until I truly decided to deal with the cause of the depression instead of covering it up. It is because I finally accepted responsibility for my life that brought me to The Depression Project and opened the door for my healing and the gift God gave me to help others heal. (more…)

This Emotional Life: PBS Series

Friday, January 8th, 2010

I watched the new PBS series This Emotional Life over the last two days and I would highly encourage anyone who is struggling with mental problems to give it a watch.  Especially part two that is about Rethinking Happiness.  Not only was all the material handled well, (balanced) there are many experts that speak throughout the show that could be useful resources in their own right to help an individual along the path.

The show inspired me by reminding me of the following (more…)

From My Heart To Yours - Deconstructing What Limits Us

Monday, November 30th, 2009

I feel so privileged to be the founder of The Depression Project and I am so grateful for each of you who offers your hand and heart to grow this community that holds the space for a new and brighter future for everyone impacted by the big three depressive orders – depression, bipolar and anxiety.

It seems perhaps a little ironic that the journey of recovery to sustained mental health cannot be attained through the thinking mind.  It requires a drop from the head into the heart and the beginning of a new relationship with you.    To even begin this trek we have to start by deconstructing the myths upon which our access to mental health has been predicated.
